Refund Policy

This policy governs all hires between Riot Rentals ("the Owner") and the Hirer. It operates alongside your rights under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
 

1. Cancellation & "Change of Mind" Refunds

Refunds for cancellations initiated by the Hirer are processed based on the notice period provided before the hire start date:

  • More than 7 days notice: Full deposit refund of 100%.

  • 3 to 7 days notice: 50% refund of the deposit.

  • Less than 3 days notice: Deposit is forfeited. 

  • Hire Fees: All hire fees must be paid in full prior to or upon delivery/collection. Once the hire period has commenced, no refunds are provided for early returns.
     

2. Security Bond Refunds

A $50 refundable security bond is required for every booking.

  • Inspection: The bond will only be released following a successful post-hire inspection by the Owner.

  • Deductions: The Owner reserves the right to deduct costs from the bond for:

    • Late Fees: $25 per hour for the first 3 hours, then a full day's fee.

    • Cleaning/Minor Damage: Professional cleaning or minor repairs for karaoke systems or board games.

    • Missing Parts: $10 per missing board game piece.

  • Timeline: Approved bond refunds are returned via the original payment method within 3-5 business days.
     

3. Australian Consumer Law (ACL) Guarantees

Our services and equipment come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL.

  • Major Failure: If the equipment suffers a major failure (e.g., is unsafe or substantially unfit for its intended purpose), the Hirer is entitled to a refund or replacement.

  • Exclusions: Refunds under ACL do not apply if:

    • The equipment was damaged by the Hirer's misuse (including exposure to weather, liquid, or smoke machines).

    • The Hirer failed to notify the Owner of a defect within 1 hour of taking possession.

    • The damage was caused by a third party or "Acts of God" while in the Hirer's care.
       

4. Force Majeure & Owner Cancellations

If Riot Rentals is unable to fulfill a booking due to events beyond its control (e.g., extreme weather or government lockdowns), the Owner will provide a 100% refund of the hire fee. The Owner's liability in these instances is limited strictly to the refund of the hire services and does not include consequential losses like "spoiled party" damages.
 

5. Damage Beyond the Bond

If an item is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair, the Hirer is liable for the Current Full Retail Replacement Value plus any loss of income resulting from cancelled future bookings. This applies even if the replacement cost exceeds the $50 bond.
 

Note to Hirer: By paying your deposit or taking possession of equipment, you acknowledge and agree to these terms. Any disputes regarding this policy are governed by the laws of New South Wales.
